Capt's Blog Stardate 17032011:

Hello and welcome to FBO.Asia.Resource. The objective of this blog is to share experiences and impart some of the knowledge gained so others may have a better picture of what to expect when they operate into Asia. Landing at an unfamiliar foreign airport and trying to get your pax safely through CIQ and turn around your aircraft can be overwhelming if you don't know who your handlers are or what services they can offer. You may try to call your flight coordinator if you get your mobile to work, but sitting in a cubicle in Houston half a day apart , they cannot help you much either. So here is where I will share some of our experiences. At the moment I am operating within SE Asia and China. hopefully I will be flying into more exciting cities in other parts of Asia. I have heard stories about landing and handling in India so that would be a good experience to write about.

I will attempt to get a few contributors who flies to different destinations or uses a different handler so the wealth of experience and knowledge will be even greater. At the end of the day, your pax are happy, you feel safe and secure that your aircraft is ready and we can all head for the bar and get our well deserve drinks.

WSSL & WSSS

WSSL Seletar XSP, is Singapore preferred airport for GA because it's cheaper, not busy and offers excellent service. However the runway may be short (5223ft) for certain jets and it's VFR only operations. WIP is being carried out improving the place and thus even shorter operating periods. Even with excellent radar vectoring to downwind be aware of height and area restrictions. ATC are strict and you will get an earful or worse if you don't comply. Universal Aviation and SIMCO are 2 handlers that we have used and they will assist you in your CIQ and other need for your aircraft. A van will ferry pax to the terminal from the ramp. A very fast turn around is possible here.  UA have an excellent lounge and pantry. A taxi van can be called to sent you to town which is about 30 minutes away.

Tropical thunderstorms are to  be expected in late afternoon and if IMC be prepared to divert to WSSS Changi SIN. If you divert, airport police will board first and get some information about your flight.  Changi airport  is a world class airport with 24H operations and excellent ATC, very efficient handlers are SATS and CIAS which we have used. Bring tow bar head just incase because all aircrafts need to be push back and started. T3 has a great airport hotel and downtown is less than 30 mins away.
